MIntavalla consists of an Interval circle and two keyboards underneath:
an upper melody- and a lower harmony keyboard.

It illustrates musical events by analysing and specifically colouring chord intervals (lower harmony keyboard) and melody intervals (upper melody keyboard) in realtime:
– chord intervals related to the tonal center established by the first chord root being played
– melody intervals related to the chord root currently being played (upper melody keyboard)
– the interval circle above the keyboards highlights the chord currently being played (here: G minor) and also re- cords the chord interval levels of all chords relative to the tonal center (outer interval ring).
– the (adjustable) colors always represent the absolute semitone distance of the chord and melody notes to the respective tonal center or chord root.

Mintavalla works purely with realtime MIDI data.

VoMPE (Voice over MIDI Polyphonic Expression) analyzes voice input and then outputs polyphonic MIDI notes based on formant frequencies representing voice characteristics.

The process of voice production can be modeled by the vibration of the vocal cords and the resonance of the vocal tract. In this case, the voice spectrum is the product of the vibration spectrum of the vocal cords and the frequency characteristics of the vocal tract. Thus, the frequency characteristics of the vocal tract are called the spectral envelope. And the resonant frequencies of the vocal tract, i.e., the peak frequencies of the spectral envelope, are called formant frequencies. These are widely used in speech analysis, synthesis, and coding.

VoMPE estimates the spectral envelope of voice input using Linear Prediction Coefficients and then finds the formant frequencies. The spectral envelope is divided into bands and one band corresponds to one MIDI channel. VoMPE outputs MIDI notes that reflect formant frequencies whose amplitude is maximum in the band.

VoMPE is provided as a VST 3 plug-in for digital audio workstations and supports 16KHz, 44.1KHz, and 48KHz sampling rates. OS environment is 64bit Windows 11.

The adaptations are python scripts for a generic module that let’s you hook up other MIDI gear yourself, much in the spirit of the good old SoundDiver adaptations – at least, scripting the MIDI. No custom UI currently is possible or planned as of now.

So basically everyone who can read the MIDI spec and can do a little scripting could create new adaptations for more devices!

How does it look?
[Disclaimer]: The video shows version 1.0.0, a lot has happened since then. Especially the version 2.0.0 introduced the most sought after feature – bank management!

Supported platforms
This software is build and run on Windows 10, macOS 10.15, and several Linux distributions. Note that this is not a commercial project, and as I am using Windows mostly expect some hiccups. But I will get back to you if you report a bug and try to resolve it!

Building your own adaptation for a synthesizer
It is possible to create an adaptation for a new synthesizer that is not yet on the supported device list. For that, you’ll select an existing adaptation that might be close to what you need (e.g. same manufacturer, same device family), and use a text editor to adapt the Python code controlling how to generate the device specific messages required and what to do with the answers from the synth.

If you’re up to that, I have written a whole Programming Guide documenting the required and optional methods to be implemented. To make sure your code works, you can run it through a generic test suite that all adaptations must pass, find more information in the Adaptation Testing Guide, please check it out!)

I know this is not easy, and most importantly new devices also might require capabilities that are not yet part of the Orm, so please don’t hesitate to contact me, I’ll try to help!

Bella is a bells and mallets-oriented instrument that uses a chord-driven step sequencer to create a vast of instrumental phrases. These phrases can be used in many musical events like songs, EDM, experimental music, ringtones, or even smartphone notification sounds. You can also create interesting transitions or background accompaniment.

How it works?

At its core, Bella is a synth that uses 8 bells and mallets models together with traditional synthesis features. This includes a lo-hi filter and an optional portamento effect. It’s also equipped with 3 effects: Wah Wah, space-based reverb, and delay.

But the real fun maker here is the programmable step sequencer. It can follow any kind of played chord and create complex arpeggios, while synced (or not synced) to the DAW’s tempo and time signature. The “sync time” button, when turned on, can adopt the DAW’s time signature, while the BPM syncing button adopts the DAW’s BPM. The programmable sequences can be saved to an independent file and loaded anytime in any preset. Overall, this plugin focuses on simplifying the programming process and creating new musical events with ease.

2RuleMidiSeq ( TugMidiSeq ) is a polyphonic arp and seq creator.
The notes of the pressed chords are automatically lined up from the lowest pitch to the highest pitch, creating musical polyphonic pattens according to the beat moments in the seq window.

-In addition to the automatic ordering of the notes according to the “from low to high pitch”, the option of “setting automatically incoming MIDI note to the lowest empty line” is added (NoteOrdered/NoteFirstIn button). In this case, when pressed up a note, the corresponding line becomes empty (the sorting algorithm is not called).

V2: In addition to Shuffle and Event Randomization, 2RuleMidiSeq still offers a wide range of parameters to shape your sounds. Variable speeds, beats, velocities, and durations allow precise control over each chord note. The built-in SineWave synth lets you audition your patterns instantly.

WARNIG!! : Some DAWs send MIDI notes created in TugMidiSeq back to the track, which can cause MIDI message loops. To avoid this issue, make sure to specifically select the MIDI keyboard during playback for the TugMidiSeq track.

BabyDrummer is a versatile and easy-to-use VST3 pattern-based drum sequencer.

You design your patterns, make some variations and set the play order. You will be surprised how little effort is needed to make a great rhythm. You can design and play back your drum patterns in an arbitrary order.

BabyDrummer does not have a built in drum sampler so you need to use one in conjunction with it.

MbiraGen is a semi-generative sequencer plugin that produces MIDI notes.

It is based on a sequence of up to 12 “melodies”. Each melody can have up to 4 variations which are selected round-robin. A Melody is a 5×4 grid where the vertical direction indicates note pitch and the horizontal direction indicates time.

Pitches are assigned based on a combination of settings: the tonic note, the scale, the mode, the interval assigned to the melody, and the individual scale degrees represented by the vertical positions in a melody.

In addition to the melody sequencer there is a velocity sequencer, controls for sync time, note length, velocity jitter, note length jitter, and 2 additional sequencers that can apply variations to the melodies as they are being played. These variations provide the drift and randomness that keeps the pattern from feeling too repetitive.
