Guitar amp and pedal capture plugin using neural networks.
Capture your own amps/pedals/plugins with Proteus. Can capture a drive/tone knob, or snapshot of the sound at a specific setting. Use the Capture Utility to quickly train models in the cloud with Colab. Effective for Amps/PreAmps, Distortion/Overdrive/Boost pedals (non-time based, no Reverb/Delay/Flange/Phaser).You can also capture a “rig”, or combination of pedals/amp.

This is similar in concept to a Kemper, Quad Cortex, or ToneX, in a free and open source plugin, with the ability to capture and share the sound of guitar gear normally costing hundreds or thousands of dollars.

Download the Proteus Capture Utility, which includes the input audio file and Colab script to train models.

As of Version 1.2, Proteus also features a 3-Band EQ (Bass, Mid, Treble) and a built in default IR (for convenience, recommended to use a dedicated IR plugin).

Proteus uses a LSTM neural network to emulate guitar amplifiers/preamps and distortion/overdrive/boost pedals. You can capture the sound of an amplifier either by recording with a microphone, or direct out from a load box. When running “Direct Out” models, you will need to use an Impulse Response plugin to accurately model the amp speaker/cabinet.

You can create your own models using the Automated-GuitarAmpModelling repository directly (LSTM with hidden size 40), or by using the Capture Utility files (available for download at GuitarML.com) with Google Colab (recommended).

To share your best models, email the json files to smartguitarml@gmail.com and they may be included in the ToneLibrary.

Loading models:

Download available models from the Proteus ToneLibrary. Use the Load Model button to select a folder containing Proteus json models. Note that models for NeuralPi and SmartPedal use a different model architecture and will not be compatible.

Capturing an Amp/Pedal/Plugin
Download the Proteus_Capture_Utility.zip to obtain the ProteusCapture.wav and ProteusCapture.ipynb Colab script.
Play the Proteus Capture.wav from your DAW / Audio Device and input to your amp/pedal/plugin, and record the output. Recommended to use a Reamp for impedence matching, and a Load Box for direct amp captures.
Upload the “ProteusCapture.ipynb” from the Capture Utility to the Google Colab website. Upload your out.wav file and follow the instructions in the Colab script to create a Proteus compatible model. Snapshot model training will take 10 minutes or less, and Knob model training will take around 30 minutes. For Knob captures, you will need 5 separate out wav files, as detailed in the tutorial videos.

Not your grandpa’s guitar amp
The STR-X was built to be a simple, powerful, digitally-oriented guitar amp, one which isn’t based off any pre-existing analog models. If you’re looking for “vintage tube warmth” or “British bite”, look elsewhere. It’s not your grandpa’s guitar amp.

Features:

Hi Gain: New in v1.2! This switches between the standard, high-gain channel of STR-X, and a more clean, rhythm-guitar oriented tone. Don’t worry, it isn’t too clean! Works great for punchier rock tones or a more mild, bluesy overdrive.

Mode: The Mode control in the center of the amp changes the crossover point that feeds the pre-amp distortion (after the “X” pedal-style distortion).

Normal will give you a solid low-end, with retained clarity in the mids and highs even when cranked.

Thick drops the crossover point lower, resulting in greater intermodulation of the distorted signal, and a fuzzy tone ready for a sludge or doom sound.

Finally, Open separates all of the low-end from the mids and highs for a tight and bright tone, perfect for fast palm-muted playing or any situation where the low-end of the other two modes might be excessive.

X: This mysterious knob works like a one-knob distortion pedal (inspired by the Ibanez Tube Screamer), with filters that focus the tone on the mid-range the further it’s driven—good for an extra bump before the amp, dialing in a lead tone that cuts through everything else, or for tightening the bass on Thick mode while still remaining truly Thick.

Gain: This is the pre-amp drive section, ranging from not-quite-clean to a heavy wall of distortion. At high gain, the texture varies significantly, depending on the Mode used. This stage generates asymmetric distortion and both even and odd harmonics.

Master: This knob provides the output gain of the amp, with added distortion as well. Although not claiming to emulate any particular type of tube, it does generate the symmetric, odd-harmonic distortion you’d expect from pentode tubes. With low pre-amp gain, you can use this knob to dial in fairly clean tones down low, and bright crunch up high.

Amper is a mid/high gain guitar amp for metal.
But, Amper is little different than other metal amps. There are 2 different drive section. Sections are not parallel. Connected series. Volume 1 controlling pre-gain tube distortion before main pre-amp which is controlling by Volume 2.

RockAmp is a high gain tube guitar amp simulation.
No specific hardware simulated, no advanced circuit emulation algorithms used – just tuned to sound good. It is useful for rock and for low to mid-gain sounds, but it is also capable of some high-gain tones.
Features 3 drive modes – CLEAN, ROCK and METAL which differs in gain amount but also in distortion character and pre-equalization used.
BRIGHT switch engages algorithm which accentuates higher frequencies dynamically. It is very sensitive to the input signal level (this can be adjusted by INPUT).
PRE Equalizer not only shapes input signal frequencies but in ROCK and METAL drive modes also significantly affects the drive level and character.
POST Equalizer shapes output signal frequencies.
GATE features low pass filter on input signal controlled by envelope follower. Useful particularly for higher gain sounds, should be turned off for quiet lower gain sounds.
TIGHT affects how fast is the drive response to signal (the more tight – the faster drive amount falls).
FAT adds even harmonics to the signal.
BODY adds some middle and higher mid-range and some more aggression.
MOD is modulation effect which can be set up like chorus, flanger or vibrato. In mode I there is one delay line, in mode II there are two delay lines creating richer chorus effect.
DELAY is simple delay effect with overdrive and filter in feedback loop – it can be introduced by THRESH amount.
This is only Amp simulator, it does not feature Cabinet simulator. For cabinet simulation you can use some free Impulse response VST plugin like Ignite Amps NadIR.
